Okay so after we found out last week than Clara wasn’t a very good Doctor we this week find out that she isn’t a particularly good teacher nor even the best companion the Doctor could have picked it seems. But before we get to all that we get magic trees and little red riding hood. This is the last stop on the whimsy road before we get to the big earth shattering conclusion to what is sure to be an overhyped, over complicated, under explained season finale.
Spider-Verse is the latest in a long line of trying to get the readers money by putting out a big “game changing” crossover from a comic book company. Now fortunately unlike most this won’t tie up every comic book in the line but only the ones with spider in the title. Not sure if that’s better or not. Anyway the idea is that this story will cross universes and draw in every spider-man whoever was, including a few specially made for this story. That is where “Edge of Spider-verse” comes in. This short mini-series is a set of ones offs that will centre on a different “Spider-man” each week ideally to introduce us to some of the new guys before they get lost in the shuffle of regulars and fan favourites that will no doubt dominate the series. The episode picks up where last weeks left off with Clara vowing never to travel with or even see the Doctor again which means she is now on a space train, insert your own Galaxy Express 999 reference here, named after the Orient Express as you can probably tell by the title. Well okay the episode doesn’t really begin there it begins with another nice in universe timer that syncs up nicely with the run time to make the whole thing seem a bit more suspenseful. In this case however it matches up with the pre-credit sequence of an old rich woman being killed by a mummy only she can see. Of course everyone takes her for delusional, or possibly mad. Enter the Doctor and Clara on their “last hurrah!”
Broken Promise is the third part of the Broken ones series, a series I must confess I haven’t been actually been reading, or even aware of thus far in my life. But how bad an idea can it be, after all everyone always says a series is at its peak on the third entry. So I figured using my keen mind and hard earned English degree I would be able to piece together the bits I’ve missed and let you know if this one is any good.
